Hamilton to Brantford Rail Trail

Last weekend, we spent some time on the Hamilton to Brantford Rail Trail in Dundas, Ontario. It was the perfect way to spend Thanksgiving Monday. The leaves have started to fall, and were covering large parts of the trail completely. It was a beautiful day to spend some time among nature.

The Rail Trail was originally part of the abandoned Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway. It was completed in 1996 and runs 32 kilometres (although we only walked about 5 of those…). The Hamilton to Brantford Rail Trail is Ontario’s first entirely off-road, interurban hiking and biking trail. It’s equipped for casual walkers, hikers, bikers, and equestrians. We didn’t see any equestrians, but it definitely would have added to the natural atmosphere.

Even though the trail runs parallel to major roads and developments at times, it was almost completely silent. There were plenty of people walking dogs and riding their bicycles enjoying the weather. Hopefully this wasn’t the last weekend with warm weather before winter comes!
