Approximately 30 000 trees in Richmond Hill alone will be affected by the Emerald Ash Borer. Walking around Richmond Hill, the effects of this insect are already visible. Across the street from our booth at Heritage Village Day was a young ash tree which had already been infected. It, and many others like it, will soon need to be removed before they die, rot, and collapse – potentially causing property damage.
Evidence of the Emerald Ash Borer is obvious on this ash tree-lined street in Richmond Hill. The first photo was taken at the beginning June, 2014. The second was taken last week, after the limbs of the infected trees have been removed.
The Emerald Ash Borer is going to affect our urban canopy. If you have ash trees on your property, they need to be protected or removed to prevent property damage. And of course, make sure to plant new trees when you remove an old one to restore our canopy.
