Arborist Reports and Tree Health

Spring is coming… slowly.

Trees are finally budding or in bloom, the weather is warming up, and the early morning hum of construction sites has started again. Now is the perfect time to see how your trees fared during the winter and check for any infestations or diseases, as well as prepare for any renovations or building projects on your property.

Checking your Tree Health

If you suspect your trees are budding too late, or not budding at all, they could have a disease or be suffering from an infestation.

At this time of year, frost cracking can become obvious. If water got into the bark in the winter and froze, this expansion can severely damage the trunk and structure of the tree. It can disrupt the flow of nutrients and cause death in the tree.

Always important to look for is Emerald Ash Borer if you have ash trees on your property. The telltale sign of an infestation is that the higher branches of the tree don’t bud or they start to die, while the lower branches appear healthy. This is because this bug cuts off the flow of nutrients starting from the top of the tree and works its way down. If you see an uneven bud on your ash trees this year, you likely have an infestation and the tree will need to be removed.

Other diseases and infestations such as Gypsy Moth, Asian Long Horned Beetle, and Anthracnose have clear symptoms for you to look for in spring as well. Visit our information pages to learn how to identify these.
